DOC MARTIN

Of all the roles played by Martin Clunes, Doc Martin is definitely the one that stands out the most. Not only was it a hugely successful TV series, but it was also the one that first sparked my curiosity about this amazing person and his work. Through Dr Martin Ellingham, audiences around the world discovered a character who is gruff on the surface, but inside charming and soft-hearted.

Set on the beautiful Cornwall coast, the series blends  comedy with emotion, showing village life with all its humorous and touching aspects. What fascinated me is how Martin manages to say so much without speaking, with just a simple glance, a slight change of expression or a simple gesture.

But Doc Martin's enormous success is also thanks to the wonderful cast: Louisa, Bert, Ruth, Aunt Joan, Penhale, Al, Morwenna and all the villagers who make Portwenn feel real, imperfect, funny and very, very human.

This gallery celebrates not only the character, but the entire world of Doc Martin: the contrasts, the delicate irony, the eccentric characters and the enduring love story that invites viewers to come back again and again, season after season.
